WHAT TO EXPECT

Therapy is a process of growth and self-discovery. In my sessions I promote behavioural transformation by encouraging a well balanced and realistic outlook on life, and the adoption of healthy attitudes and reactions. I have the tools and professional experience to help you get back on track.

Treatment Approaches

My treatment approach includes the strategic integration of a number of evidence-based approaches to psychotherapy tailored to suit your situation and needs.

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT is the most widely used and evidence based practice for treating mental illness and psychological distress. CBT focuses on challenging and changing unhelpful cognitive distortions and behaviors, improving emotional regulation, and the development of personal coping strategies that target problem thoughts, emotions, and behaviours.

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

The principle of ACT is to understand and accept what is out of your personal control, and commit to action that improves quality of life. Strategies of ACT include a combination of learning psychological skills to manage the impact of distressing thoughts and emotions (Mindfulness skills) and clarifying what is important (Values) to promote changes that improve your quality of life.

  • Mindfulness Based Therapies

Mindfulness refers to bringing attention to your thoughts, feelings, and body sensations in the present moment, and accepting them without judgment. By developing mindful awareness we can adjust habitual reactions to stressful situations, difficult thoughts, or unpleasant feelings. Mindfulness based therapies can be particularly beneficial in treating chronic psychological difficulties and physical pain.

  • Schema Therapy

Schema Therapy is an approach based on integrating aspects of cognitive-behavioral, experiential, interpersonal and psychoanalytic therapies. The therapy is based on understanding and changing the psychological impact of thematic patterns of behaviour and experience generally developed at an early age. Schema-Focused Therapy is considered beneficial in helping longstanding difficulties.

  • Psychodynamic Therapy (PDT)

Psychodynamic Therapy is a form of talk therapy that explores the connection between a patient's past experiences, often from childhood, and their current mindset. PDT explores how people relate to themselves and others, and aims to build insight into attachment styles, interpersonal relationships, the conscious and unconscious mind, defence mechanisms, and the meaning of specific dreams.

  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

DBT is a type of cognitive behavioral therapy. Cognitive behavioral therapy tries to identify and change negative thinking patterns and pushes for positive behavioral changes. DBT may be used to treat suicidal and other self-destructive behaviours. The 4 modules of DBT include Mindfulness, Interpersonal Effectiveness, Distress Tolerance, and Emotional Regulation.
